A Sonnet
Allowing pause in the middle of an audit,
I reflect on addition and subtraction,
Grateful now that the educators taught it,
Gratitude the excuse for my distraction.
Plus and minus are so infinitely simple,
In their columns they are honest to perfection.
Their forthrightness makes me absolutely dimple,
I feel fonder every moment of reflection.
In a life full of twists and painful turnings,
Where the way may be dark and complicated,
Mathematics are the yang to yinful yearnings,
Where ways and means are ever clearly stated.
I’m a Gentile, always looking for a sine
Yet the balance in the shadows is cosine.
